Agree - this is DEFINITELY not satire. The Dems know that their ENTIRE house of cards depends on the courts favoring everything they do, and they’ve been VERY LUCKY in the past, with Republicans putting people like Souter, O’Connor, Kennedy, and John Paul Jones on the Supreme Court (and to a lesser extent, Roberts). Had even two of those people been solid conservative votes (like Thomas and Scalia), then we wouldn’t even be having this debate...it would have already ended for the Democrats.
So now they’re dealing with Trump who takes the job of appointing judges MUCH MORE SERIOUSLY than even Reagan did (remember Sandra Dee) and Bush Jr. (who wanted Harriet Miers, an old hag with no judicial record...but fortunately was told no dice by Senate Republicans).
They see it all ending. They have Ruth Ginsberg there, hanging on by a thread, due to her stupidity in wanting a white woman (Hillary Rodman) replacing her rather than a black man (President Obama), and Sotomayer, who is living with Type 1 Diabetes and has already exceeded her life expectancy with the horrible condition.
...and so the goal for the Dems was as follows: Prevent the Kavanaugh vote until at least after the election next month - that way Red State Dems wouldn’t have to choose between two losing options (anger the hard-left base [which is relatively minuscule in their states] by supporting Kavanaugh, or anger their own voters by opposing Kavanaugh].
The Republicans weren’t dumb and were not about to be tricked into letting them not vote. So now the Dems have to vote and they’ve likely already lost their North Dakoda seat and now see others slipping away.
In 2019 and 2020, there may well be 54 or 55 Republicans in Senate - and with that number, the Left won’t even be able to use the ‘woman card’ to stop Republican nominees. The courts will be stuffed with with conservative judges and the Democrats will face a day they hoped would never come - Democrats will again have to EARN votes (as they did through the 1960s), or the Democrat Party will cease to be a national party.
