There’s a story about a trade show decades ago where some vendor was showing off some new material, the ingredients which he had in liquid form in various trays.
Along came a Chinese guy and chatted hin up, while that was going on the Chinese guy leaned over to get a better look at something on the table, his tie ‘accidentally’ fell into on of the liquid trays.
On leaving the booth, he immediately bagged his tie, and on returning to his hotel, boxed and shipped the tie off to mainland China for analysis.
So it all isn’t stealing, but a lot is clever trade-craft in places an venues one would least expect. All of these items, and so on, are part of Project 863 in China - the search for the next super-weapon (like the A-bomb was to WWII).
