In this case, it appears that law enforcement is encouraging the father to talk, and talk a great deal to the media.
That is not good for him and being that he is not president of the local Mensa group, he may trip himself up.

And that is precisely what they want him to do and should encourage him to do. If he did it, hopefully they’ll figure it out sooner, rather than later.
