7-6 / 2 to go / could be 9-6, or 7-8.
And, I was a little early on the Browns / Raiders game. Wow. A lot of OT games this year.
Feels almost certain there will be more ties this season.
Yeah... Be kind of funny if someone gets into the playoffs at 7-7-2 or something (over someone who’s 7-9)
Would 7-7-2 be “better” than an 8-8 record? Can you imagine the uproar?
Well, I do believe a tie is worth half a win so 7-7-2 (and 0-0-16 for that matter) is the same as 8-8 and therefore standard tie-breaker procedures would go into effect between the 7-7-2 team and the 8-8 team.
Based on winning percentage for teams with ties it would appear they treat it as if the tie game wasnt even played. E.g., when Packers were 1-1-1 their winning percentage was .500 If they got credit for 1/2 a win it wouldve been higher.
That was the way it was done before 1972.
But the official standings https://www.nfl.com/standings
DO reflect the ties as being half a win. 2-1-1 Packers are listed as having a .625 win% which is 2.5 divided by 4.
1.5/3 is .500 so they were .500 at 1-1-1
Math confuses me but I think I understand this.
