Captain Grace Hopper was my hero. She told the story of her coming up with the term “bug” when a moth was found in the flip flops and she will always stand in my memory, small and straight in her white Navy uniform, saluting the audience.
Then there was the story she told about her coming up with the idea of programming in decimal when she couldn’t make her checkbook balance and she realized she was trying to do it in octal.
Looking at the creation of a new computer language, one trick was never to have something unique. Always make it part of a pattern. Once was a bug, twice was a feature. Good thing to remember in any type of design, including interior design.
