Not true at all. Alabama is just like any other school in that regard. This a couple of years old but here's Nick Saban addressing the issue of Alabama transfers.

Not true. We have a friend who was courted by Saban, promised the starting quarterback job, but was never given a chance after he signed. I think players are often recruited to keep them from playing for the opposition. If he had thought he would be warming the bench, he would have played elsewhere. His high school team won the state championship.

He had trouble transferring because Saban wouldn’t give him a blanket release and other teams already had their qb slots filled. It’s big business vs. an 18 year old with big dreams.
