You referred to Lt. Gen Flynn as “field grade”. He was way passed that as a 3-star.
Your explanation doesn’t answer my question why should field grade and above know Constitutional Law ?
Do they take Constitutional Law classes ? I wonder if they even take UCMJ classes ?

Yes. Even cadets at the military academies take a class in Constitutional law. Most field grade officers and above have attended the Army War College and United States Army Command and General Staff College with additional courses on Constitutional law.
