WTF is a “QUIDAM”?
“Who was ‘Quidam’ at FreeRepublic..?”
I remember when the total number of different threads at FR over the course of an average day was maybe just 20 or 30:
FreeRepublic really, really started pulling into high gear during the Monica Lewinsky imbroglio; we gained very many new members and Drudge linked to us (though the link was pulled a number of times, usually for understandable reasons).
People were marveling the way that Monica was for MONTHS still a story embargoed by the MSM and that 95% of the American public had never heard of her at all.
Here at FR we had scores of Monica experts; her personal phone number was even posted here, and many called it, just to hear her voice.
A guy calling himself Quidam, claiming to be a DC insider, made numerous cryptic promises about the future course of the Monica Matter:
Quidam said “The Grey Suits are about the walk up that hill..!”
The implication was that important DC people were going to talk to Bill, and he was going to have to resign.
Quidam had many adherants here at FR, and they were very emotional about his (her?) many pronouncements.
You just re-arrange a few things and the Quidam story mostly works for Q, as now.
Oh, of course there is the small matter of WJC never resigning from office, of course.
When nothing he said came true, Quidam simply disappeared.
