FLAK = acronym for incoming anti-aircraft artillery.
Used in World War II, 'flak' is a German abbreviation for Flugzeugabwehrkanone, or "aircraft defense cannon". 'Flak' was rapidly adopted by the Allies fr obvious reasons.

Flak was quickly adopted by the Allies because in the time it took to say Flugzeugabwehrkanone over the radio, you'd probably already be dead.

flack = in politics, a biased pundit, like all of CNN.
The word flack was first used as a noun meaning "publicity agent" during the late 1930s. ... You may also be familiar with another "flack" - a noun meaning "criticism" or "opposition." This unrelated homograph stems from a misspelling of "flak," a German acronym and English word for antiaircraft guns.
