‘Murphy Brown’ To Tackle Trump’s Wall & ICE, Casts Adan Rocha As DACA Dreamer
Deadline ^ | September 13, 2018 | Nellie Andreeva

Posted on 09/13/2018 10:25:26 AM PDT by EdnaMode

As an inherently political comedy, CBS’ Murphy Brown revival was fully expected to take on the Donald Trump presidency, and now we know it will include his controversial immigration policies.

Relative newcomer Adan Rocha has been cast as a new series regular on the new Murphy Brown, from original creator Diane English and Warner Bros. TV.

First appearing in the show’s second episode, he will play Miguel, a Mexican Dreamer who came to the United States at the age of one. Now he’s a college student working at Phil’s Bar alongside Phyllis (Tyne Daly) for extra money to put toward tuition. Quick with a quip, he’s always making cracks about “The Wall” and ICE.

English previously had said that the revival would address Trump’s attacks on mainstream media and its coverage, which he brands “fake news.”

Candice Bergen is back as intrepid investigative journalist and news anchor Murphy Brown. Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud reprise their roles from the original series. Charles Kimbrough, who was the newscast anchor in the original, is set to do three episodes of the remake as a guest star. New series regulars include Daly, Jake McDorman as Murphy’s grown-up son Avery, and Nik Dodani as Pat Patel.

Rocha previously did arcs on IFC’s Brockmire and Freeform’s The Fosters.

I watch those old shows and enjoy the radio versions too.

The original show wasn’t that great. Can’t imagine the new version would be any good. I’ll pass.

I appreciate your posting the link. Guess he didn’t behave ungentlemanly towards her or we’d be hearing about it.

Bottom line: glad they didn’t hit it off.

Funny, isn’t it, how she, a collge dropout, and DiNiro, who never went to college, think he’s such a “douche”? I saw this when a family member who has a very high IQ was growing up. The average kids in his school thought he was “weird.” The high-IQ kids liked and respected him.

She called Trump an insulting name, but I have no doubt she made herself available to any number of chauvinistic Hollywood jerks in her younger days. Men who would make Donald Trump look like a saint by comparison.

I have little doubt. I knew a couple of girls who lived with her in their sorority at Penn. They were all star-struck about "Cakie." I thought she was a beautiful woman in her youth, and not a bad writer—for awhile after she dropped out of school, she wrote at least one feature article that I know of for Esquire magazine which was, if I recall, about women's roller hockey. It's a shame she didn't develop her writing on any substantial topics. By the time Murphy Brown rolled around, her point of view had rotted on the vine. Last time I saw her on tv a couple of years ago, it was in some kind of cops'n' robbers show and she, playing the mother of one of the adult males in the show and old enough to be a grandmother, feigned sexual intercourse with some lowlife in a motel, herself on top. It was a disgusting display, reeking of desperation to be popular again.

Yup! I’m sure Family Ties is next but Alex Keaton will be a leftist now.

I watched a 1953 episode over the weekend and I was quite pleasantly surprised at how still very watchable it was in terms of storyline, writing, etc. Tonight, the granny network up here (Vision TV) is showing the Columbo episode in England (Dagger of the Mind). Last week, it was the John Cassavetes one (Etude in Black).

Nothing wrong with classic Columbo.
