I wouldn't suggest following pulling a Bloomberg, but there is a compelling state interest in curbing rampant obesity. Our national defense readiness is at stake -- something like 85% of male highschool seniors are unfit for military service, which is one of the reasons the services have missed their recruiting goals for the past multiple quarters...Also one reason that they're recruiting more girls to fill out the numbers which even further damages deployment readiness and morale. Aside from military readiness rampant obesity does put a strain on the medical system and other infrastructure, not to mention damages our national image and pride.
Schools ought to be required to institute sports and physical activity programs based on military fitness guidelines. Letting your 7 year balloon up to 180 pounds should constitute neglect. Society should voluntarily institutionalize fat-shaming.

Not a one of these 30% or more could qualify for health insurance before Obozzocare unless they were on a group policy from their employer. Sadly, I have seen men I served with in the bush back in 68-69 who are 300 plus now! Last time I used the VA some 3 plus years ago, I saw several younger Vets in the ER who were closer to 400 lbs.
