Currently working in Durham and resting my weary bones at night in Chapel Hill. Don’t care what anybody says, I was around Raleigh through Fran in ‘96 and I have been in Cat 4s and 3s on the coast. The hype around here is almost on par with inciting a riot. They will tell anybody within their listening area that they risk certain DEATH unless they act now. Of course, they will fall back on the old “better safe than sorry” excuse when they realize all their millions of dollars worth of weather technology and thousands of collective years in weather experience and with two days out, all they can produce is a map of North and South Carolina with a plate of spaghetti noodles piled on top.
Stopped in at the Food Lion to pick up a 12-pack of beer and some raw jumbo shrimp (on sale) last night and there were 6 or 7 check-out registers, 5, 6, 7 people deep each with at least one full buggy, many with two. 3, 4 cases of bottled water, 24 jumbo rolls of Charmin, cereal, soda, bread, etc...
What gas stations that are not out of gas, have lines going out into the street. Passed a Sheetz station on Hillsborough Road in Durham yesterday after work, yellow tape around the pumps (out of gas) and this morning at 6:30am (after a late night delivery) packed again with cars pumping gas.
My last storm prep stop this afternoon will be stopping at the ABC on the way home. Thinking Dark and Stormys. A simple hand basket will do... um, I think.
The original D&S recipe calls for ginger beer. I’ve never in my life seen ginger beer in any store. Is ginger ale an acceptable substitute?
Charlotte running out of gas as well.
I have 2 cars full and a truck half full. I will sleep in them if the power goes out. I will hit the Publix later.
I don’t need anything really. What we are dealing with is the influx of folks from the coast.
