Shortly after comments about Roseanne Barr, Louis C.K. and the #MeToo movement made during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter sparked controversy online, comedian Norm Macdonald has issued an apology.
"Roseanne and Louis have both been very good friends of mine for many years," Macdonald tweeted Tuesday evening. "They both made terrible mistakes and I would never defend their actions. If my words sounded like I was minimizing the pain that their victims feel to this day, I am deeply sorry."
Macdonald, who has a new show on Netflix titled Norm Macdonald Has a Show debuting this Friday, drew criticism for saying he was "happy the #MeToo movement has slowed down a little bit," and speaking about friends and fellow comics Barr and C.K.
"Roseanne was so broken up [after her show's reboot was canceled] that I got Louis to call her, even though Roseanne was very hard on Louis before that," Macdonald said. "But she was just so broken and just crying constantly. There are very few people that have gone through what they have, losing everything in a day. Of course, people will go, 'What about the victims?' But you know what? The victims didn't have to go through that."
Of the phone call between Barr and C.K., Macdonald said, "They both said they had a good conversation and were just giving any advice you could give to each other. There would be no way for me to even understand that advice, because who has ever gone through such a thing? All their work in their entire life being wiped out in a single day, a moment."

I was wondering the same thing.
I was surprised that when Burt Reynolds died there was no mention of Norm Macdonald’s hilarious Reynolds impression.
Cornelius and Zira were hurt by Roseanne.
I’ve seen one of Louis CK’s episodes about 8 years ago, and maybe 5 of Roseanne’s episodes from sometime in the late 80s. Who are their respective ‘victims?’
I’m a big fan of Norm Macdonald.
And he has NOTHING to apologize for.
Only a seriously-crazed social justice maniac would be offended by that comment. Unreal.
Roseanne’s “Victims”? What are you talking about, Norm?
If he was going to go wobbly so quickly, he should have used more ‘wobble-proof’ jokes. Now he just looks weak and unsure.
Roseanne probably cursed up a storm if she was watching him on TV; “Some f**kin friend you turned out to be!”
Norm is right and knows the “apology” is just out there to appease the mobs.
There was, actually.
he is smart enough of a guy to refer to Roseannes victims knowing it is nonsensical.
Louis CK was accused of sexual harassment by several women. Roseanne on the other hand made a bad joke about Valerie Jarrett that was deemed racist (saying she looked like a character from Planet of the Apes). Roseanne said she didn’t even know Jarrett was black.
Maybe you’re right. By the time he was on SNL, I did not own a TV set, so there are many SNL acts I’ve never seen perform before.
Go to this earlier thread and watch Norm on The View in the 90’s.

It’s hilarious. He keeps talking about Clinton killing someone.
#metoo has more power than I thought.
Once you cave they gain more power.
This is bad.
I was surprised that when Burt Reynolds died there was no mention of Norm Macdonalds hilarious Reynolds impression.

Maybe it helped Roseanne’s mood when he asked permission to do his thing while on the call.
Only people you ever apologies to God and family, because they are the only ones that will truly forgive you.
If Norm (who I love as a comic) had put quotation marks around the word victims, he would have sealed a bad fate for himself.....that’s all it takes....quotation marks as sarcasm.
