I was on one of those ships (a DDG) you heard checking in - we were mid-way between Pearl Harbor and San Diego, returning from deployment with the Constellation Battle Group.

My brother was on a DDG, too. He was on the Benfold, just coming back from a deployment and headed toward San Diego. I didn’t hear his ship check in, but I sure heard a lot of CGs check in.

Hue City, Antietam, etc...

Hope I got the names right on those CGs. I’m working from 17 year old memories. I just remember that the CGs were named after famous battles.
