Popol Vuh is perhaps the least-known of the Krautrock bands of the early 70s.
In my view, their 1972 recording, Hosianna Mantra, is one of the greatest original recordings of the past 50 years. "Ah!" is the opening track.
Kept waiting for the good part
Stevie Ray Vaughn just warming up before a Concert is awesome... this was meh
The Popol Vuh (pronounced poh-pol voo) was an epic tale for the Que’chua (sp?) of early Latin America. Strange name for a band. The tale itself is pretty strange as well, but revered as high literature by the natives. An extremely intelligent polylingual friend of mine (tongue-in-cheek) heaped lavish praise on it (he had learned Quechua), and I had never seen the term in print until now.
Back before disposable diapers my mother had to clean the Popol Vuh out of my cloth diapers, I think...
Funny. That’s the name of the hottest new restaurant in Minneapolis right now. https://popolvuhmpls.com/
Where’s the “rock” part?
I was expecting something more along the lines of this (Czech from the same era): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbLhMOoNy9o
opening of the first track on that sounds like a direct rip-off of Led Zep’s Immigrant Song... not bad tho
This is SO STRANGE !
I’m just now getting into the Google play service. And I just looked them up - NO JOKE - 10 minutes ago!
And they aren’t someone that someone can casually look up either. There is some sort of mental bond going on here.
My mind is blown !
I like their music. I have the Nosferatu soundtrack on vinyl.
OK, that was interesting. I could listen to that.
I’m now a fan of this “Till Lindemann”
Pray tell who is the BEST known?
BTW, I am highly offended, as a proud Germanic person. And kraut is fantastic stuff.
The term “krautrock” is a tongue-in-cheek joke. Although the bands in this genre were influenced by rock, they were also a reaction against it.
At the risk of offending other krautrock fans here, I’ll venture that the best known are

Either way, thanks for the link. I always enjoy intellectual and sophisticated music, and given that we’re in a quarter-century-long artistic drought, good “new” material from the archives is always welcome.
Dang, jealous!!
