No one expected Naomi Osaka to win the US Open yesterday. Everyone favoured her opponent. The crowd was solidly with Serena Williams, as were the bookies. But the 20-year-old Japanese-Haitian, who became the first player representing Japan to win a Grand Slam, prevailed against all the odds.
In 10 years she’ll probably weigh 350 lbs...
Here is another recent, “it’s all about me” Serena debacle. A Pro tennis player from Tennessee, Tenneys Sandgren experienced complete humiliation at the hands of media, USTA and mostly Serena Williams. Tenneys, a virtual unknown made it into the Australian open quarterfinals, so naturally the media began investigating him and found tweets he had made supporting pizzagate, right wing values and he is a Christian. So naturally he became alt-right and was excoriated. In his tweets, he had posted a photo of Serena Williams, in a match during one of her vile, angry screams with fist clenched. He tweeted the word “DISGUSTING”. Which immediately brought Serena into the issue. Right away, she began calling for an apology from Sandgren because of his obvious “racial bias” in posting that picture of her. She accused him of being alt-right, and not only did he need to apologize to her but people of color everywhere.
Enter a few responsible sports writers who knew the real story behind Sandgrens tweet. Serena was losing the match against Roberta Vinci an Italian tennis player, Serena again unable to control her temper when losing began ranting and screamed at Roberta Vinci, calling her a bitch, which is what Sandgren was actually referring to when he tweeted, “disgusting”.
YEP, the media is disgusting too.
But she’s a new mom whose pictures are on Instagram! She went to Prince Harry’s wedding wearing a fascinator and hung out with Oprah and the Clooneys! Of course she won!
