Sometimes I watched Fox, sometimes CNN, sometimes MSNBC, sometimes mixed. I usually tried to ID the station on the tape description on the playlist.

And there’s a separate playlist for 26 Gulf War videos.

I haven’t watched TV in years, and I’m not setup to record anything anymore, so it’s just what I kept of labeled tapes from decades ago. I threw out giant garbage bags filled with recorded tapes I never labeled. I worked in NY and lived in MA, and am such a video packrat that it’s taken weeks of throwing out long rows of bags of videotapes to clear out most of what I had. And I STILL have boxes to deal with. The book situation in the house is even worse. I collect American history, as original as possible, and have a 42’ hallway of bookshelves floor to ceiling on both sides, a 10’ high library, 8 bookshelves in one room, another 2 elsewhere, and STILL the books fill boxes in the closet. My nieces have no interest and I still try to figure out what I’ll do with it all. And ephemera!!!! Some of my favorites are a ticket to the Lincoln Assassination Trial and a Brady photo of my 2nd great uncle capturing the first Confederate cannon. Sorting is clearly in my future. I hope.

I think I saw you on the H&G network. Did you have people come to your house to clear a path through your house?

Just kidding. Sounds like you have great stuff. The problem is sorting and finding a place to keep the stuff that needs to be archived and get rid of the rest. That takes time, and no one else will care enough to do it for you.

I have a program that digitized all our family videos, and it wasn’t that hard. You turn on a 60 minute video and go do something else, and when you come back, there’s a new file on your hard drive. Then stick in the next tape. Glad you are doing that, but always, always, keep one hard drive copy, for the important stuff, make DVDs that hold the digital files as files, not movies. Can store more that way.

One way to safely back up your stuff would be to buy a big hard drive and get a backup program and store all your videos on the backup drive. I saw a deal this week for an 8 terabyte hard drive for $140. Make sure it’s USB 3.0 so that the transfers are like 10x faster.

On the NJ muslim celebrations, I seem to recall that when it became an issue with Trump’s campaign, someone was able to find a report on a local TV station from NY or northern NJ. It didn’t have video of the celebrations, but of people who witnessed them and police were called to investigate. If I find it, I’ll let you know; you do likewise, my rational friend.
