...Quite meticulous to prevent such a horror...

I fail to understand why a combo hanging-decapitation is a "horror" when compared to a plain old hanging.

Yeah. Plain old hangings were held and all the townsfolk would show up to watch. Did kids get out of school to go?

Because FRiend—so as not to be lumped by my observation as being horrified== It is clear this was a poorly done suicide... in forensic point of fact. Most judicial executions performed with hanging are conducted by experts hired for the purpose— to sever the spinal cord at the 2nd and 3rd cervical vertebrae (considered to relatively humane...death- as stated by said experts).

The cases when this operation by the State was not properly done are indeed a “horror” to the witnesses (back in the day), public crowds and such— to people who have not ever witnessed such a botched job. In any case there is no such thing as a “plain old hanging”, and a good deal of misinformation about lynchings (ie. white on white vs. white on blacks— innocent or not and without benefit of judicial trial, or with it) Extra judiciary being non-legal, crowd hysterics and manipulation. Cause they didn’t have TV then, guessing, and a throwback to medieval “justice”.

For reference— Albert Pierpoint, UK govt’s hired pro executioner -Whose hanging mill for minor nazis was machine like, efficient and judiciary. His dispassion in this was legendary.

Suicide, being an act of directed anger (”ill show.... whomever, flawed non-logic), in stark contrast- and unfortunately exposing this to strangers (not that close friends and family would be any less).

Should we ever get numbed to casual violence— well that is a cultural sign of degradation. IMHO.
