This pope is the worst I’ve ever seen, but the question is how long has long has this been going on decades or centuries

I’m inclined to think centuries. This sort of thing never got reported on years ago. If you look at the numbers of perpetrators and victims in the last 50 years, it is absolutely colossal. When the “church” declares itself the final authority and says we can change the rules/add new doctrines every few years, is it any surprise these abuses of power happen?

Not to mention the titles and claims attributed to popes, even claiming to be God or Lord on earth. All power and authority belongs to Christ, our claim to be his true followers is dependent on us holding to his original teachings (which are already recorded in scripture). See John 8:31-32. The question to be asked of every doctrine should be what does the scripture say?

Quotes regarding the supposed absolute authority of the pope:
Pope Pius X “The pope represents Jesus Christ himself”
Christian Marcellus said to pope Julius II “take care that we lose not that salvation, that life and breath which thou hast given us, for thou art our shepherd, thou art our physician, thou art our governor, thou art our husbandman, thou art finally another God on earth”.
The Gloss of Extravagantes of Pope John XXII says “But to believe that our Lord God the Pope the establisher of said decretal, and of this, could not decree, as he did decree, should be accounted heretical”.
Pope John Paul II “Have no fear when people call me the “Vicar of Christ,” when they say to me “Holy Father,” or “Your Holiness,” or use titles similar to these, which seem even inimical to the Gospel”.
Pope John Paul II again “we readily understand the devotion of Saint Francis of Assisi for “the Lord Pope”,the daughterly outspokenness of Saint Catherine of Sienna towards the one whom she called “sweet Christ on earth”

Jesus said: Matthew 24:4 Jesus answered, “See to it that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.
