The jaw dropping feature is something I’ve noticed about strangers’ reaction to mine. He’s small for a male Dane, only about 129 lb. He’s also reasonably well behaved, being basically friendly but a little reticent. Nevertheless, whenever I walk him near strangers, I always get a “WOW!” reaction with people wanting to pet him. He’s a black and white mantled Dane with huge white feet, a white chest, a white snoot and long, soft, floppy black ears. In short, he looks like a giant black and white Beagle, all of which makes him a thermonuclear chick magnet.

His impressive size is cool, too. It does a great job of attracting friendly and curious people while scaring off those who are up to no good, all of it without a single growl or threat.

You know, I have to say that I have noticed the exact same characteristics in my Shepherd girls.

They are instant ice breakers with literally everyone, hot girls, not so hot girls, old ladies, old men, young men, all first responders, anyone who works in a fast food window, free stuff for the dogs. It’s just on and on.

Gotta be careful with young children sometimes though, because many do not seem to have the proper respect of shepherds, and even though mine are friendly, there are definitely some which are not friendly.

And shady characters generally stay well in the shade.
