Don’t let me down
Across the universe
Both Lennon on the sparse Let it Be album and the only listenable tunes there.
I Want You (She’s So Heavy)
Come together
Because
Sun King
Mean Mr. Mustard
Polythene Pam
All Lennon from the otherwise saccharin pop of Abbey Road.
Lennon lifted McCartney from obscurity to stardom. McCartney would have been the most sought after studio musician in England otherwise.
I agree, that Lennon was the dominant force the first few years of the Beatles, but once he met Yoko, Paul took over the reins.
McCartney was always a great tunester. It has its limits.
McCartney would have been the most sought after studio musician in England otherwise.
I think Jimmy Page already had that distinction by the time he joined the Yardbirds.
Long and Winding Road (Paul) best song on Let It Be.
Other than that I’m a Lennon guy.
What about Yesterday? One of the most frequently covered songs ever. Paul was no slouch. I think they were a fantastic song writing duo. Neither of them achieved anything in their post Beatles day close to what they produced collaborating with each other, imho.
I heard recently that the Beatles had made a decision to put out songs that would hit the Top 40 rather than produce more underground-style music in order to achieve fame, stardom and great wealth. Smart blokes.
Nonsense. Paul wrote too many great songs to remember including many of their hardest rockers like Helter Skelter and Paperback Writer. Truth is the competition spurred them both on (and George too) to be better than they were solo.
And the most sought after studio musician in England was Jimmy Page.
