I lost that bit of naivete back in the mid 80s when I was serving as a Marine. The CIA wasn’t trusted for **it then either. And it was an open secret that the CIA was doing the major lifting in transporting in the cocaine for distribution in the US.

The CIA had station chiefs all over the world in every major city and country and even the smaller ones.
They found out all the secrets of all the politicians and started blackmailing them.
This gave them tremendous power and power corrupts absolutely.
I think it started in the time of the OSS.
