I would think a bullet to the back of the head is best- you don’t see it coming and you probably don’t even feel it.
When you’re beheaded your head can remain conscious - which I think would be horrifying.

Back during the French revolution a doctor studied just that, and found that the severed head was conscious for several seconds after beheading.
That is a terrifying thought.

When you’re beheaded your head can remain conscious...Sounds improbable. When has a head shown evidence of remaining conscious? A few seconds of brain activity before death might cause eye movement and blinks and jaw movement appearing to be an attempt to speak, but I doubt that the severed head is aware of it.
