EL DORADO (CBS13) A Union Mine High School student is facing battery charges after an altercation in her classroom over a Donald Trump Make America Great Again campaign hat.
Cellphone video shows some of the tension inside this high school classroom.
The teacher is seen trying to subdue fired-up 17-year-old senior Jo-Ann Butler, after she became enraged at a classmate for wearing the Make America Great Again hat.
She grabbed the hat off his head.
Thats a racist and hateful symbol, Butler said.
She is now facing two counts of battery, one against her classmate and one against her teacher who deputies say she slapped, as he escorted her from the room
Butler says she made the scene to express her political feelings.
Maybe just wake people up in some type of way, because its not cool the environment our classroom is in, Butler said.
Her father says he does not approve of the way she behaved in class.
Wasnt handled the way Id like it, Chris Butler said.
Now hes faced with the legal impact of his daughters now alleged criminal act.

Your right to swing your fists ends at the tip of the other man’s nose.
So has the kid wearing the hat ever say anything that would make the environment in the classroom bad? Somehow I doubt it.
She is an unfortunate looking girl. The dad is ok looking, wonder what mom looks like!
So you can commit any crime and say its a political statement?
You did a good job then! My kids are also conservative. Not sure on the CCW, but wouldn't be surprised.
Or, Mein Kampf.
Yeah, she made her point. So will any prospective employers when they toss her application in the trash.
And the ‘victim’ should’ve made a ‘political statement’ with a left hook to the jaw.
That would be a bit inside of one’s personal space, in my opinion. A swing that close justifies a closer swing of a heavier magnitude.
Should be suspended just for slapping her teacher.
