I have no intention of watching the show anyway, but it seems kind of hacky to do the old “killed of” routine. What I would love to see in one of these shows where the main character leaves, is all the other characters go on like that character is still there. That is to say every character still yells “hello” to mom who is supposedly in the next room and mumbles something unintelligible back and the only thing you ever see onscreen is a brief flash of their back as they walk by. When anybody asks where they are, it's always something like “on the phone” “in the bathroom” “out shopping” etc. It would be funny and not as overused as the “dead” or “moved” clichés.

Oooh I like that idea. That would have been much better than what they’re doing.

Hmm...Bernard Lee died before his scenes in “For Your Eyes Only” could be filmed - Moneypenny said he was “on leave.”
Bond got his assignment from Chief of Staff Tanner and the Minister of Defence.

In the next movie, Robert Brown was the new M.

The Avengers...Mrs. Peel’s long lost husband was found; Steed’s boss assigned a new partner....not sure how Honor Blackman as Cathy Gale was written out, but in one of the episodes, Steed gets a postcard from her. “What’s she doing in Fort Knox?”

Hogan’s Heroes...Kinchloe just disappeared...not explained, other than that he didn’t escape. Presumably he was either killed in action or transferred to another stalag.
