The "30" reminds me of the notation placed at the end of a news story. Usually looks like this: -30-. 30 means "the end" or "no more."

According to WikiPedia it is probably from the "92" code used by telegraphers during the Civil War, rather like our ROFL and BTW. Guess radio people use some of the codes now. BTW "99" means to "go hell. "
