I read elsewhere that the 30 days is indeed correct because the clock starts the next day (after conviction) and not the day of. Apparently those are the rules. That would make the statement by Q of 30 exactly correct.
I believe you are correct. The old legal axion used was “A day begun is a day done”. If a subject is processed into the jail at 11:59PM and gets released at 12:01AM. Then this person gets credit for 2 days in jail.
