I wonder about that revolver. It says he pulled the trigger several times and it did not fire.. Did he not know he also needed bullets?

Chances are he acquired the revolver from a street vendor.
It might have been missing a firing pin.

That, bad ammo, or a defect in the weapon, even if it was a Colt. Good for the love puppy. Doubt my Great Dane would do that, but my AST cross might.
