I really tried to listen all the way through, but as I read somewhere (here?) about a month or so ago ..... we are (were) not a nation of immigrants, but a nation of settlers.

Folks USED TO settle here, intent on leaving their native land and adopting a new one ... THOSE immigrants were settlers and welcomed with open arms.

What we have today is indeed a nation of invading immigrants with no intention of becoming American but in getting FROM America whatever they can get.

A descendant of an immigrant is not an immigrant. The “native Americans” came here from somewhere else.

The immigrants of the late 1800s and early 1900s were a boon to this country. When immigration from Europe was stopped by ted kennedy the country suffered.

After the second generation you are no longer an immigrant. We are not a nation of immigrants.
