WAKE COUNTY, NC (WTVD) -- One hundred ninety-eight miles per hour!
It's how fast a driver in Wake County got up to last month on US-1 near the Triangle Expressway.
William Jefferson, 22, was behind the wheel -- he has since been charged with street racing and reckless driving.
Only on #ABC11 the wild video of a street racing stunt in wake county. If you can believe it, the car got up to 198 MPH! @NCSHP pic.twitter.com/7kL4vBqSju Josh Chapin (@JoshChapinABC11) August 17, 2018
"It's one reason why I don't want my kids on the roads late at night," said Maryanne McAdams, a mother from Holly Springs. "I don't have a driver yet --we're about a year away but it's that kind of stuff that makes me really nervous."
North Carolina State Highway Patrol said somebody sent them the seven-minute YouTube clip as part of a complaint.
The video shows Jefferson in his Dodge Challenger "Hellcat" driving nearly 130 mph over the speed limit on US-1. In addition, the video shows Jefferson take the car over 100 in a 40 mph zone.
The clip starts with the car doing "doughnuts" in a parking lot before moving to a clip of Jefferson with his hood open at a nearby Sheetz.
"I don't think that road is particularly dangerous but anybody going 198 mph and it's going to be particularly dangerous," McAdams said. "It's really a miracle that nobody was hurt or killed in that."
Jefferson has a clean record except for a few traffic violations.
>>Feh. Sanctioning takes it too far.
Everything you said: TRUE.
We got a “run what ya brung” track here for 2 years. Very fun. Safety equipment was based on your times. Even my 420 hp Mustang was good without safety equipment but my father-in-law’s 800 hp S-10 required full equipment.
There were serious racers too (like the FIL) but the track alternated all day between the two so everyone had a good time.
Then, one guy started complaining about noise and it got shut down.
That’s regular 485 hp SRT MSRP. Hellcats (700+ hp) are much more.
He was likely named after our President 22 years ago. His nickname was Slick Willie.
William Jefferson Clinton
As for highway driving I dont care so much what the cars top speed can do. Acceleration time, ( pickup) especially on uphill grades is whats most important to me.

Black guys rarely care about the speed of their car.””
Really?
Face Palm....:(
Why all the fuss? Hes just responsibly practicing to become an immigrant communist Chinese woman going for a parking space in the Costco parking lot. When he gets proficient at it, hell get his sec change operation and mandatory Lexus
And though I am generally opposed to civil forfeiture, I would love to see that car crushed with Jefferson himself having to hit tbe big green button.
Get a big crusher as this happens all the time but not everyone is stupid enough to make a record of it to incriminate themselves
Crush their phones.
Mr. Jefferson is a “privileged status” individual in an over-the-top liberal town. He’ll go free with a very light tap on the wrist.
Yeah, it happens more and more. I can’t count the times I’ve seen them “street racing” in mid day traffic on I-65.
Look, I know they aren’t gonna crush the car. I’m venting because I’m tired of the behavior. Phone people, too. If you can’t do hands free don’t do it.
So you're opposed to people changing radio stations? Drinking coffee or water while driving? Clearly nobody can ever drive with children (especially toddlers) in a car in your world.
The Hellcat sounded like she was barely even trying at 150. Impressive motor.
707 horsepower cars for sale to anyone who can afford them and yet they want to ban my AR15.
I was only 18 over the speed limit and the shaking scared the bejesus outta me.
I get mine in bran flakes.
He either stole it or he got some inheritance. It’s one of the two.
707 hp Hellcats are so last year. The 2019 Hellcat Redeye makes 797 hp.
