So weird, the family is called Payseur and yes, the ‘pay’ does connote ‘pay me.’

According to Neon, the original French word meant “Paymaster”, or the one in charge of paying. But it certainly seems to have been turned around. Now we pay the master.

From French, taking its parts literally, Payseur would be countryman.

Pays = country/nation/soil & -eur is the extension for male person.

The general word for countryman is compatriot.
