They were losing control and they knew they didn’t have enough of “their” people in place to control the PDB. I think initially there were a lot of those people added to the administration via Rinsed PIBust but they were weeded out in time.

Yep. The brazen lies are of course to be expected from the government, especially law enforcement and the courts. But it is still a bit of a shock to see it come out in the open. The masquerade is usually much higher quality.
I don't think Priebus had enough horsepower or connections to regulate how the IC/DOJ community informed Trump. That bunch self-selects the best liars to prepare PDB and interact with the public / leak to the press. Ongoing to this day, bet all you have.
