When the Boston Globe suggested that editorial boards across the country make coordinated statements against President Trumps vilification of the news media, we didnt think much of it.
We prize our independence, both from government and from other media outlets. Coordination, especially with Boston, isnt in our nature.
And no doubt those who love to paint the press as a groupthinking cabal will cite the fact that many editorial boards echoed one another on the same day as proof they were right all along.
So be it. You know what they say about desperate times.
Trumps use of the worlds most powerful pulpit to launch a never-ending tirade against those who seek to gather facts, synthesize them and present them to the public has been so vicious, so indiscriminate, so corrosive to our common civic fabric, that it demands an extraordinary rebuke.
