Jack Whitehall has faced a backlash over reports that he has been cast as Disneys first openly gay character.
The British comedian has reportedly landed himself a role in forthcoming action adventure The Jungle Cruise, but Disney fans are questioning why a straight actor has been cast instead of a gay actor.
According to reports, he will star alongside Emily Blunt and The Rock in what has been described as a turning point in Disneys colourful history.
The film is supposedly set in the 19th century, where LGBTQ+ rights were non-existent.
@raunanand Why is Jack Whitehall (Jack Whitehall!) played Disney's first openly gay character?
@raunanand Did we... run out of gay people?
@ricardo_jpl Straight people playing gay camp characters is offensive. Period.
@ricardo_jpl Prove me wrong and tell me about all the gay camp actors that auditioned for this role but somehow @jackwhitehall was the best at doing it so he got the job fairly. I'll wait.
Alex Hayward @alexwhayward "Good news guys, I know you hated our half-hearted attempt to include a gay character in Beauty and the Beast so we're going to have an actual gay character in a movie!" "Great!" "And he's played by Jack Whitehall."

Gay guy playing a straight guy?.... I’m offended! /s
Makes sense. Movie murderers should be played by real murderers.
I identify as a tiger, they should hire ME! ping..
In Hollywood? Uh...no.
“white chicks”
“White Collar” had a gay actor play the lead that was straight. They also had a straight actress play a gay cop.
Obviously, the Sheldon actor must quit, since actors aren’t allowed to act anymore.
