Concrete triclinium from Herculaneum. Astonishingly well-preserved, considering Vesuvius. I suppose the post in the center is for a decorative arrangement, or maybe a lamp.

Eating while lying one one’s stomach or side & propped up on one’s elbows doesn’t sound very appetizing.
The women guests sat in straight back chairs. They probably didn’t get indigestion as much.
