ONEILL, Neb. Federal immigration enforcement officers surrounded a tomato greenhouse complex Wednesday morning in an apparent bust of undocumented immigrants.
An ICE spokesman confirmed that it was an ongoing law enforcement activity and said that details would be coming later in the day.
Shortly before 9 a.m. several ICE law enforcement vehicles arrived at the ONeill Ventures plant on the northwest edge of ONeill.
Nebraska state troopers blocked the entrance.

A 12-year employee at the plant, Staci Ramon, expressed shock as she stood across the highway from the ongoing raid.
Ramon said she had a dental appointment this morning and she arrived for work was blocked by state troopers.
She said that about 80 employees work at the plant, picking and packing tomatoes.
Now well probably have 20, Ramon said.
Alright you tomato pickin varmints, come out with your hands up!

“There should be a means for such workers to be employed legally in the U.S., he said.”
GREAT IDEA! Why hasn’t our government thought of that?

Very interesting.
Near my home town. Nebraska will not enforce immigration laws, and local cops have been told to avoid talking with ICE.
To many big businesses depend on slave labor. What I saw at a packing plant’s “Shanty town” made me so mad that I could not see straight.
If they need the workers, get them legally. The problem places like Excel are having now is that the locals know enough Spanish to talk with the new hires, so the companies are importing people who don’t speak Spanish any more.
This is nice news for the day! What about Home Depot parking lots? ICE should check those each day. It’d up their count significantly. Maybe WalMart, too?
That only treats the symptom. The employer needs to be hammered to the fullest extent of the law, even if it drives him out of business. Once word gets around that the consequences of employing illegals aren't worth the risk businesses won;t hire them. As a result many will self deport for lack of having a job.
A close look at these raids indicates they’re not random. Once there’a certain amount of identity theft and deportees and felons hired, ICE will act.
OK. Deport the 60 criminal alien invaders, and hire 60 AMERICANS.

Staci knows the place is packed with illegals.
CAN dem sonsbitche$!
I think the enforcement should be a RICO act: Close the business, sell it at auction, and jail the owners and managers.
When we start jailing the employers, they will stop hiring illegal aliens.
Boo hoo. Hire American.
Chances are, the owners have filed false tax returns, collected and paid no Social Security taxes that send up RED flags!
Nothing like the IRS getting cheated to get the government coming down on you!!
Tax penalties seem the only punishment actual employers get. Some office underling gets the rap for the false paperwork.
In a town of 3700 the Feds raid a Mex grocery, Mex restaurant, Major tomato processor and a sister potato processor.
looks like the town folk are gonna have to drive to the next town for tacos, rice and beans this coming Friday night.
If 60 out of 80 employees were illegals, it becomes are to argue the employer made an "honest mistake".
If a few employers were made examples of, with jail sentences and maximum fines, employment for illegals would dry up.
