We saw something like this as a possibility, and never joined. We know some others thought the same way as we did, and all think of themselves as vindicated. I think it was the known liberal bent of the founder, and his clique that caused us to not trust in the entity he created. Liberalism is not only a mental disorder, but it’s generally immoral, and therefore the wrong road to take at the fork.

Exactly - full censorship was inevitable on a private platform. What's the old saying? Generals are always fighting the last war. Step back and consider the genius of the deep state's strategic aims. It was nothing more than channeling & devoting public (albeit dark) resources in order to build up monopoly enterprises that could then claim private control. Beautiful. However, just like smart adversaries quickly adapt to new battle conditions, patriots must utilize the full arsenal of legal/public weapons to defeat this new threat to liberty.

Another aspect that I've haven't yet seen raised is the larger question of: why now? What's the impetus that finally forced them to act? While a devout atheist, I do appreciate the perspective that Satan's greatest accomplishment was convincing people he doesn't exist. Without question, the greatest strength the mockingbird media possessed was maintaining a public perception of impartiality. Sure, the MSM leaned left, but the "quest of truth & justice was a time honored and noble quest of a free press", ad nuseum.

By destroying any remaining vestiges of this carefully cultivated reputation, the deep state is essentially in 'emergency throwing out all ballast mode'. So, again, I ask why? And not just the Nov elections; this is way, way too soon. In fact, look how fast defensive measures are going to be effectively deployed. So, why the first week of August? Like so many things involving Trump and the ongoing (cold) civil war, it's hard to decipher the tea leaves.
