Excellent life, sounds like! I sure would be proud of you if you were my son! But not everyone has to have the exact same life. Maybe your own brother did things differently but also had a good life. Maybe he never married. That’s ok too. I don’t see a problem with following a Dream in your 20s.

I’m not sure you’re correct re the generations. I already said, the youth were mocked and belittled in Plato’s time! In my day, growing up in the 70s and 80s, we were ridiculed and there was of course some truth to the comments back then! We WERE all on drugs! My parents’ generation with The Beach Boys and the goofing off (in America)?? The music, the styles? It seems there never will be a new generation of youth who is wiser and more hardworking than their parents’ generation.
Even in your day, you probably weighed how much commitment to [whatever, army, wife, boss, etc] you would need to display to get [your dream of a good life]. And made your choices. That is probably constant through time; Kids today (did I actually just say that? Yikes) don’t always see their parents’ commitment to their job, their farm, their wife, as a good thing or something that worked out for that parent. They have to make their mistakes and good choices based on what they see.
Yes, just like the Australian woman (Justine Damond) who decided to come near a police officer in Minneapolis, or Kate Steinle who went for a walk in a sanctuary city.
Yet many more exercise prudence and visit places away from home without incident.
I know several fellow telecommuters who live full or part time out of their RVs. If they are childless, what responsibilities are they shirking?
Which I am sure is complete BS. A regular agro degree from a fine state/A&M school would be marketable.
There’s nothing to prevent them from traveling the world now, other than cost. There are laws on the books in other countries that prevent them from working while on that travel. Work visas have to be obtained.
Some countries such as New Zealand have a strict standard for those who want to immigrate or work. Most would not qualify.
Well, we will see in just a short decade or so from now.
Until then, get off my lawn!
Maybe Ben Barker needs to take up farming in South Africa, and see how long that lasts.

Well if they are working and taking care of themselves there is really no issue. My focus is on all those who, at say 29 as in this story, want to continue to live a vagrant lifestyle. And even then, fine, just don’t demand others pay your freight, like your mountains of student loans. Or demand a minimum living wage so you can be a bum. Or demand that I pay for your healthcare through Medicaid because you refuse to be responsible and pay your way through like others.
And people wonder why Millenials appear to be in love with the idea of Socialism??
Depends on what you consider to be "exotic locales". Personally, I never had any interest in foreign travel but I did enjoy road trips around the US, and at one point quit a job when I was in my early-30s so I'd be able to take a month-long plus trip through the western states with my son.
Currently, I've been retired for the past ten years, since I left work when I was 51. I don't travel now though. Figured I pretty much saw what I wanted to see already when I was younger and in better physical condition for hiking the trails. Now, instead of traveling to see new things in new places, I prefer to sit still and look to see what new stuff will come to me instead.
I did this, starting back in the mid 1970s.
Took a pay cut, and saw the world!
I went on to spend 22 years on active duty.
I went to Texas, Mississippi, Colorado, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Australia, New Zealand. Fiji, American Samoa, Hawaii, Washington DC, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Greece, Turkey, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Alabama, all on the government’s dime. Can’t complain!
Travel the world. An over-hyped desire much like “world peace” spewed by exuberant beauty contestants.
You want to travel the world without having to rub shoulders with the unwashed and washed alike. Download Google Earth and have at it. No Stink, No Pinch, No Kidding. Been doing it for years and I have yet to pay a dime for the experience.
I was once lectured by a "learned scholar" who toured Africa. While he was there, he discovered that farmers who regularly moved crops and/or herds from field to field improved yield (sure!), increased "sustainability" (ok...) while decreasing their carbon footprint (debatable). He had it all figured out, how we could end global warming by changing all the farmland in Africa to his all new system, or something.
Sez me, "So you "discovered" crop rotation, a process that's been used since the Egyptians figured it out 5000 years or so ago? Are you on a Gov't grant, or did some college fund your junket?"
That was the end of the conversation. Fine by me, he was kind of a blowhard, really impressed with himself.
