Sigh.
Just this weekend, on a hot, sunny day, driving the rural roads of northern Vermont, with beautiful green fields spotted with silos and cows, and wildflowers lining the roads, my wife and I saw two little girls selling lemonade at a little stand they made.
They were in a pretty out of the way place, and I am sure they didn’t have many cars passing, so when they did, those two girls gave it everything they had, jumping up and down, yelling...
Well, we have a rule. Never pass a kid’s lemonade stand without stopping...so we did...a dollar a cup and worth every penny for that lukewarm yellow brew of theirs!
Those two girls will look back later in life, and remember that hot July day in 2018 when they were seven years old, best friends for life...their entire lives in front of them...passing the boring days of summer selling lemonade on a back road in Vermont somewhere. One of the best times of their lives, and they don’t know it yet.
Makes me smile right now just thing of it.
And then there is this. Scum. How could someone be so low?
Sigh.
You must be a writer. That was good. Lump in the throat good.
Great post. I’m sure they were very appreciative. :D
Agreed, it’s very sad what happened in North Carolina.
When I was their age or a little younger, my best friend and I sold paper hats we made out of folded newspapers for a penny apiece outside her house. Her older sister told us none of her friends had better see us selling those stupid hats or else! and she said no one was going to buy them either. No one did, but we sure had fun that summer day almost 60 years ago.
I think I would have been tempted to stay there and guard them all day!
Jeez!
You’re a good writer!
My wife and I were taking a car trip around the U.S., avoiding the anti-gun states, but we had to visit Vermont and New Hampshire. So, we made a non-stop drive across New York to get to Vermont.
We needed lunch so we stopped at a small store along Lake Champlain where we met a lady clerk named Irene. She made us a couple of sandwiches and described a nearby park where we could sit and look at the lake while we ate.
She was so excited to meet a couple traveling from California. She couldn't wait to tell her mom about our visit. I don't recall whether she sold lemonade but we made her day and she certainly made ours.
Same thing happened here in semi-rural AZ last week. Heading for the post office and passed some girls flagging down cars and thought it was a HS car wash thingy.
Somebody was smart, as on the post office door there was a sign "Lemonade at the Dixie Maintenance Station". The post office is a mile past them, but more or less a high traffic area (for us).
Stopped and got a couple of cups from some thankful 13-year-olds. Dunno what the function was, just glad to see kids making some effort to earn some money.
