The US Attorney in the Disctrict of Columbia, for DC-based FBI agents. Would be US Attorney for other districts, when the activity took place in that district.
This same sort of calculus takes place when a member of the public commits perjury in a federal case, etc., which is very very common. Limited resources, so prosecution is selective. There is enough activity involved that the system is inevitably inconsistent and hypocritical.
There is also the substantial "professional courtesy," where they cut their own peers slack. Same as most any local, county or state police department.
Thank you for the info, Cbolt.
I looked up who this guy is:
“United States Attorney for the District of Columbia - Wikipedia
The current U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia is Jessie K. Liu, who was nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the Senate in September 2017.”
I understand prosecution is selective because of limited resources, but this is a high profile case where citizens are watching to see if the swampsters will be prosecuted. It’s disheartening to watch them go free. No wonder they have such a cocky attitude. It’s like they know they’ll skate.
