A group of South American lizards that can grow up to four feet long (1.2 meters) has established a home in the Florida wild after being brought to the United States as pets, and the reptiles could begin a voracious march across the U.S. South, according to a new study.

Tegu lizards, which currently live in two large colonies in Florida, could expand into an area from the Carolinas to Central Texas, according to the scientific report published in July on the website for the journal Nature.

“Texas will be their last stop.”

No, not really. You see, Texans travel, usually wearing boots and belts, and carrying wallets. Of course, the lizards themselves won’t be aware that they’re traveling....

FYI, I’m in Texas, and I guarantee that if my wife sees one anywhere near our home she’s going to demand that I shoot it - WAY faster than I can even think the thought, let alone get out my gun. :>)

“Tastes just like chicken. “

Reminds me of a sci-fi short that I read once. Someone had invented a time machine and, of course, big game hunters wanted to go after dinosaurs. Inevitably, it came out that they tasted like chicken.

>>>Not a pretty thing<<<

Better looking than Valerie Jarret, even with the Family resemblance.

They’ll taste like chicken and make beautiful boots.

Can they breed them to grow a lot bigger? Bigger would be more fun to hunt.

Barbeque’d Iguana was good enough for Stan Ridgeway, good enough for me. Bet it tastes great!

I remember my brother having one of those little gators as a “pet” when we lived in Huntsville. Mom said that I was too young to have one but, truth be known, I think that she just didn’t want to put up with the smell of another one.

Foul tempered little bass turd (the gator, not my brother). We had a creek running through our property and I think my brother let him loose in it when he tired of cleaning up after him.

Enough with the public mocking of Valerie Jarrett. So she illegally ran our government for 8+ years. That doesn’t give us the right to keep calling her names. She cannot help her looks.

A quick search reveals Tegus are a food source in rural Paraguay...To the point of over-hunting and government game management...

Looks like the tail and hind quarters yield a good deal of edible meat...I imagine they’re a lot like iguana in taste and texture...

Batter dipped and deep fried Tegu Tenders sounds like something to try...And skins are useful for leather...

Just put the word out to Bubba...Treat ‘em like any varmint...No season, no limit, problem solved...

Honestly, I did not know Valerie Jarrett was regarded as black when that whole thing with Rosanne Barr went down. Not kidding. It puzzled me.

I really did think she was a reptile first and an Iranian second.

A despicable POS in any case.
