Never touch a bat that is not flying around. If they are on the ground they are sick. We have them up here now, this time of year. Love to watch them.

Although rabies is rare in humans in the USA, by far the most common cause is bat bite. Foxes are a distant second.
If the bat was rabid, it is dead by now. Rabies kills quickly - like a day, when symptoms show. It is a serious medical emergency.
