A lot of planes CAN almost fly themselves ... once you get them airborne.
And then there's that tricky landing part ...
But, as all pilots know, every plane will land itself sooner or later. Whether you can walk away from it is another story.
Too bad someone didn't have a junk plane they wanted to get rid of. They could have collected the insurance AND helped clean up the gene pool at the same time.

Yep.
Know nothing about jets, but in prop driven, some of those switches are used differently in different year models.
Lots of pilots got a thrill when the used boost pumps or tank selectors just like they did in the last plane they flew, just to name a couple.

“A man arrested at the Texarkana Regional Airport on July 4th allegedly told investigators he intended to fly a stolen plane to a rap music concert in another state. ... Zemarcuis Devon Scott, 18.”
What a shame. This is sure to interrupt Zemarcuis’s advanced placement physics course.

he intended to fly a stolen plane to a rap music concert in another state. Notice - he didn't say he wanted to attend a cello concert, or a piano recital - but a RAP concert.

After the routine of proper flying gets you down, get your seaplane rating.
Best $1200 I ever spent. Low, slow, and seat of your pants. Everything that today's system isn't.
Takes a lot of getting used to to having no brakes to ride. Imagine your run ups and no brakes!

I am too old.
Could not pass the physical.
I suspect a Super Cub on floats could be fun.

Could not pass the physical.Don't need one for a Sport Pilot License.
Saw an article somewhere the FAA is raising the weight limit on that too.

One of my infirmities tells me that I would be a fool to be flying today. Especially flying close to the ground where wires, TV towers, logs in the water, etc. are traps.
And I am in the wrong part of the world. I doubt that there is a plane on floats within 200 miles of here.
The time for that passed long ago. That kind of fling is for guys that are really sharp eyed and quick.

Funny you say that. The designated examiner for my check ride and log book stamp was 83 years old. Sure knew his stuff though.

he didn't believe there was much more to the task than pushing buttons and pulling levers, Oh yeah, Zemarcuis done seen them action movies.
Real stuff be made for crackers and Asians, how hard can it be? The negro super-hero always figures it out in the action films.

During the time when he’s in the county jail, he could study to become an aeronautical engineer.
