Caught between Jihadists and Neo-Nazis, Swedish Jews fear for their Future
Jerusalem Post ^ | July 2018 | Cnaan Liphshiz

When Carinne Sjoberg dissolved the Jewish Community of Umea in northern Sweden, she knew it would send shock waves far beyond the small congregation that she had spent decades building.

Neo-Nazis from the Nordic Resistance Movement, beginning in 2016, pasted stickers with fascist imagery on Umea’s Jewish community center, “making the place look like after Kristallnacht,” Sjoberg said. The closure followed surveillance activity on the center by the neo-Nazis, who published details about individual visitors.

“I didn’t take it lightly,” Sjoberg, a 56-year-old Jewish mother of two, told JTA about the decision to close. “I hate giving neo-Nazis this victory. But I can’t bear the responsibility for people’s lives, not under such threats,” she said of her city’s Jewish community of 70 people.

The closure caused a national uproar. Amid intense media coverage in Sweden of the affair, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven mentioned it in a speech denouncing anti-democracy forces in his country.

But the indignation did little to change the fact that in Sweden, Muslim extremism and the far right are part of a broader set of challenges to Jewish communal life. So while the Jewish community of Stockholm may be growing, the problems are nonetheless causing some Swedish Jews to fear for their future as a minority here.

None of these challenges are unique to Swedish Jewry: Several Jewish communities in Eastern Europe suffer neo-Nazi intimidation, and many Jews in the continent’s west have experienced violence at the hands of radical Muslims.

Nor are the problems connected to living as a religious minority in an ultra-secular society like Sweden’s endemic to this country; they occur across Scandinavia and beyond.

But Sweden is perhaps the only European country where Jews are reporting a critical convergence of these issues.

That guy who shot up the Socialist youth camp (Norway?) offered to kill white Europeans on behalf of Islamonazis. It was in his manifesto.

Muslim extremism and the FAR RIGHT?? I am truly fed up with so many trying to tie Muslim extremism to the ‘far right’. Or does far right mean something different in Sweden?

Probably bulls***. Many of these same “synagogues” are also centers for pro-Islam/”Migrant” propaganda and organizing. Whenever you hear about one of these in Europe getting Swastikas or “stickered,” in this case, you should suspect the owners of the building first before jumping to “Nazis!”

Sweden is basically an extreme left country where they are currently teaching Muslims how to have gay sex with cripples. It is not a serious country, and neither are any of its inhabitants except for the microminority of right-wingers.

I would take my chances with the Neo-Nazis if I were a Jew. At least the authorities will crack down on their activities.

I get the impression his sole focus was on Islam as the enemy, and the non-Muslims who supported Muslim immigration.

My impression from regular news sources is that he was killing Islam’s allies in the West (i.e. the children of socialists). While I think it’s a lousy and counterproductive strategy, he certainly wasn’t killing *for* Islam.

I do not recall that. He offered to buy nukes from Islamonazis, in order to stop the Islamicization of Europe.

His whole bombing was in protest of Islamicization.

It was in his manifesto. Said he could hit targets they couldn’t because of profiling. He wasn’t against Islam. He just wanted them to stay out of his country.

She is absolutely the primary driver of anti-Jewish hate from both quarters - she imports the jihadists, causing a blowback reaction from Swedes.

If the Jewish community in Sweden has any smarts they will make taking her down a priority.

Anders Brevik, and no that was not his offer or intent. His intent was to hurt the people who were driving the Islamization of Norway. And boy oh boy was he effective - Norway is not now having the problems Sweden is, and fear of another Brevik is very likely the main reason why.

Very interesting. I had not considered that.

is this fabricated and not actually in his manifesto? Can’t find many MSM references to it. Never read his manifesto in full, only passages that were posted in threads discussing his true politics (not a far right guy).

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2014/01/norway-mass-murderer-breivik-reveals-himself-a-nazi-says-he-fabricated-his-manifesto-to-destroy-coun

Further proof that Breivik was never a counter-jihadist comes from his recommendation that Europeans should make common cause with jihadists: “An alliance with the Jihadists might prove beneficial to both parties but will simply be too dangerous (and might prove to be ideologically counter-productive). We both share one common goal.” He even called for making common cause with Hamas in plotting jihad terror: “Approach a representative from a Jihadi Salafi group. Get in contact with a Jihadi strawman. Present your terms and have him forward them to his superiors”¦.Present your offer. They are asked to provide a biological compound manufactured by Muslim scientists in the Middle East. Hamas and several Jihadi groups have labs and they have the potential to provide such substances. Their problem is finding suitable martyrs who can pass “˜screenings” in Western Europe. This is where we come in. We will smuggle it in to the EU and distribute it at a target of our choosing. We must give them assurances that we are not to harm any Muslims etc.”
