I’ve always wondered, is it possible to call 911 in an area code other than yours?

I’m thinking about the situation where you’re talking to a family member via Skype, and you witness a home invasion attack live.

Every 911 number has a regular number connected to it. Most PSAPs (911 dispatch centers) don’t know what it is. They also have a non emergency number that is published on their website. They will answer that phone unless all dispatchers are busy. I have my city’s number in my phone so I can reach them for non emergency type stuff. Like a traffic light not working after hours. During the day I would call public works for that.
