I recently purchased a Ruger SR-1911 10mm pistol. I want something I can shoot heavy, fast, cast-lead bullets out of. I evaluated the Glock Model 20 but to shoot lead bullets I would need to spend an additional $200+ to replace the barrel. The Ruger is one of the nicest quality pistols out-of-the-box I have ever owned. Recoil is snappy but not punishing. I’ve shot model 1911’s for years so there was not a new manual of arms to learn. I live in the mountains of North Idaho and there are black bears, cougars, meth heads, and assorted other targets about. I used to carry a 6-shot .357 Ruger GP-100. Now I have a 9 shot 10mm that certainly reloads a lot faster. If I haven’t solved the problem in 9 rounds I should have brought the 12 bore...
I have a 12 ga for a house gun. In bear season I keep it loaded with the first 3 rounds slugs and then 3 00-buck. In winter I switch the order.
