Thanks. That explains a lot. It’s the state’s fault, and they know it, unless toxicology (or just maybe, cell phone records) gives them something upon which to hang a prosecution. “New cable barriers coming to Delaware’s Route 1 after deadly crash”.
The cable barriers aren’t particularly good - they tried them here after some cross median head-ons. The ones I know about are being replaced by concrete or steel. The cable is a lot cheaper. It will help, but not solve, the problem.
Solve what problem?
It’s nice to keep opposite traffic from the other side, but what happens if they bounce off the barrier and go sideways into “same” traffic?
Solve one problem, create another.
