First, the 'customer' asked for a water cup. She went over to the soda machine to steal a soft drink.
The worker confronted the customer and shut down the soda machine.
After that, the 'customer' picked a fight with the worker yelling 'fight me!', throwing a milkshake on the worker, then smacked the worker in the face with a metal food tray.
Anything here make it sound like the worker was in the right putting her hands on the other girl?
nothing you described grants the worker the right to assault the girl. you do not have the right to assault anyone just because...if she suspected that the girl was stealing, she has recourse by calling 911 and/or banning the girl from the store. ask any lawyer, or cop if employees have rights to assault people for stealing.
