Being a guy who's been around the block a few times (I'm old enough to have had a draft card) I,like some guys my age,know what it's like to need a bathroom *right now*.My doctor tells me it one of the many joys of growing old.
I didn't read the whole piece so I might have missed important details but if this woman had made the urgency of the situation clear to the stewardess she,IMO,should have been allowed to go.
Another possibility,or course,is that this woman is just your basic whackjob.

A lifetime ago, I was flying and was 6 months pregnant. I was in a bulkhead seat and asked the flight attendant if I could use the First Class bathroom as I really needed to go. She said no. I had to go to the very back of the plane and wait in line for the next available lavatory. I did make it without a problem, but it was close. They have relaxed the rules somewhat in that respect, but they are still little martinets most of the time.
