The surf and ocean currents there are pretty stout on a normal day.

For sure. I'm 6'2" 230lbs with my feet dug into the sand ankle deep in knee high water, picking up shells. A wave came in and literally planted me face first on the beach.

I don't get to the ocean much, but I never see waves like that in Michigan!
